Change the Tomcat Server Ports

Tomcat HTTP servers reside on each server in the enterprise. The Tomcat servers that reside on a given server depend on the platform Predefined logical group of server roles installed together on a physical server. of the server. Use the instructions in this section to change the ports on which the Tomcat servers listen for connections.

The table below lists Tomcat servers and shows the default SHUTDOWN and HTTP ports on which each Tomcat server listens for connections.

The procedure below lists the steps you must perform to change the ports on which a Tomcat server listens for connections.

Procedure 

Procedure 1 of 5 required to change the ports on which a Tomcat server listens for connections.

  1. On the server that hosts the Tomcat server, open Notepad (or a similar text editor).

  2. From Notepad, open the server.xml file for the Tomcat server whose ports you want to change. The table below shows the directory where the server.xml file for each Tomcat server resides:

Procedure 2 of 5 required to change the ports on which a Tomcat server listens for connections.

Attributes in the server.xml file specify the port numbers on which the Tomcat server listens for connections.

In this procedure, search the server.xml file for the existing port number(s) you want to change, and replace each instance of the existing port number with the new port number.

  1. Use the Find/Replace feature of Notepad (or similar text editor) to find and replace each instance of the port number you want to change in the server.xml file.

    Examples include:

    • If you are changing the default HTTP port of the CF Tomcat server from 29280 to 12345, find each instance of 29280 in the server.xml file and replace it with 12345.

    • If you are changing the default HTTP port of the Recorder Tomcat server from 8080 to 8085, find each instance of 8080 in the server.xml file and replace it with 8085.

    • If you are changing the default SHUTDOWN port of the CF Tomcat server from 29282 to 12347, find each instance of 29282 in the server.xml file and replace it with 12347.

  2. When you have changed each port number you want to change, save and close the server.xml file.

Procedure 3 of 5 required to change the ports on which a Tomcat server listens for connections.

In this procedure, you must change the port settings in the Windows Registry key that is associated with the Tomcat server whose ports you are changing.

  1. On the server that hosts the Tomcat server, open the Windows Registry Editor.

    1. From the Windows desktop, select Start > Run.

    2. In the Run window text box, type regedit and click OK.

  2. In the Registry Editor, navigate to the registry key that is associated with the Tomcat server whose ports you are changing. The table below shows the location of each of these registry keys:

  3. In the registry key, change these values as appropriate:

    • HttpPort - If you changed the HTTP port in the server.xml file, enter the new HTTP port number for this value.

    • ShutDownPort - If you changed the SHUTDOWN port in the server.xml file, enter the new HTTP port number for this value.

  4. Close the Registry Editor.

Procedure 4 of 5 required to change the ports on which a Tomcat server listens for connections.

In this procedure, restart the Windows server associated with the Tomcat server whose ports you have changed.

  1. From the Windows desktop of the server that hosts the Tomcat server, select Start > Administrative Tools > Services.

  2. In the Services window, right-click on the service associated with the Tomcat server whose ports you have changed, and select Restart. Use the table below to determine the service associated with each Tomcat server.

Procedure 5 of 5 required to change the ports on which a Tomcat server listens for connections.

In this procedure, you run the ConfigureGateway.exe file as the Windows administrator.

This procedure enables the Secure Gateway proxy on the server to detect the port number changes.

  1. On the server hosting the Tomcat server, open the Command Prompt using the Run as administrator option:

    1. From the Windows desktop, click Start.

    2. Right-click on the Command Prompt option and select Run as administrator.

    3. Log in to the Command Prompt using the name and password of the Windows administrator account on the server

  2. From the Command Prompt, run the ConfigureGateway.exe file in the <installdir>\Software\SecureGateway directory.

    1. In the Command Prompt window, use the cd command to change to this directory:

      <installdir>\Software\SecureGateway

    At the Command Prompt, type ConfigureGateway.exe and press Enter.
